Toyota has decided to go with a 1.8 Four-Cylinder Engine capable of producing up to 134Hp at 5200RPM. It makes use of Toyota’s Variable Valve Timing Intelligence (VVTI) technology in order to achieve high engine performance. The engine is coupled to the front wheels through a continuously variable automatic transmission.
Toyota has also taken strategic measures to not only optimize combustion but also reduce friction in its engine for a more efficient performance. The electric side of the power train is characterized by more powerful electric motors drawing power from its nickel-metal-hydride batteries.
It is believed that Toyota may also include motors to power the car’s rear wheels making it better suited for buyers in areas characterized by a frequent snowfall. The new Prius has a combined consumption rating of 55mpg. This is up from the current Prius’ rating.
There are number of safety features included in the new 2015 Toyota Prius Hybrid these include, Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), Stability Control, Front and Side impact airbags on both the driver and passenger side, Over head Airbags, Anti-Whiplash head restraints and tire pressure monitoring.
